The Cape Town Fashion Week That Wasn't

CAPE TOWN, South Africa - Officially known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town, Cape Town Fashion Week got off to a rough start and even rough-er goodbye as strong winds posed serious safety concerns for the attending editors, buyers, influencers, and designers.

African Fashion International (AFI), the organizing body behind Cape Town Fashion Week, held a press conference early on the last day to announce the cancellation of the remaining planned shows. Only a handful of brands were able present under the tent at Camp's Bay before guests were evacuated midway through the first and second days of shows. There was one spot of sunshine to comfort soured travelers who journeyed from near and far. Iconic South African designer David Tlale presented his latest collection "Let's Play Dress Up" at the prestigious Cape Town Club.

AFI has rescheduled Cape Town Fashion Week to April 6 - April 8, 2017 to be held in an indoor venue. Wise decision indeed!
