GABORONE, Botswana - Mabeo is a must-know name in the realms of contemporary African furniture. With thoughtful consideration for labor and materials, award-winning studio Mabeo Furniture blends the best of local craftsmanship, contemporary design, and sustainability practices.

Founded by Gaborone-based Peter Mabeo in 2006, Mabeo Furniture works with local artisans to produce bespoke works in partnership with renowned international designers, such as South African artist Porky Hefer and Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola. With a new book released during Milan Design Week, Furniture for Everyday Life 2006 - 2017 featuring words from David Adjaye and Ambra Medda and designed by Omo Creates, Mabeo shines a strong light on over a decade of high quality design conceived and produced by collective talents.

Mabeo products echo the rich esthetic heritage of Africa, using a universal language of simplicity, and conscientious use of natural materials.

As a self-taught designer, who first began working with Botswana artisans in 1997, Mabeo has consistently drawn his attention to supporting African craft economies. His tireless focus to bring meaning to design through cultural contextualization is critical in reimagining narratives and in elevating African craft practices on a global stage, including Milan's Salone del Mobile, London's 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair, and Cape Town's Design Guild. Mabeo Furniture is a must-have for every home this season.
